Spain Trade Gap Widens In April

(RTTNews) - Spain's foreign trade deficit increased in April from a year ago, as imports grew faster than exports, preliminary data from the Economy Ministry showed on Tuesday.

The trade deficit widened to EUR 5.2 billion in April from EUR 3.9 billion in the corresponding month last year. In March, there was a shortfall of EUR 4.4 billion.

Exports climbed 5.8 percent annually in April, and imports were 8.7 percent higher. The country exported 26.3 percent more energy products, while imports of the same increased by 32.2 percent from a year earlier.

During the January to April period, the total trade deficit was 16.9 billion, down from EUR 19.0 billion in the corresponding period last year.
