(RTTNews) - Viasat, Inc. (VSAT), a global company in satellite communications, Monday, announced that its subsidiary, Inmarsat Government, has secured a Task Order to provide satellite communications under the Proliferated Low Earth Orbit, Satellite-Based Services, Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract.

This marks the first Task Order award for Viasat under the 10-year IDIQ contract, which now has an expanded ceiling value of $13 billion.

Under the initial $3.5 million Task Order, Viasat will provide Ku-band LEO services via a partner network to support U.S. government operations across various global locations. The company will also offer network management support, ensuring real-time data availability through an online account management tool. Additionally, Viasat will provide round-the-clock technical support to maintain seamless connectivity.

This contract, originally awarded in 2023 by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency on behalf of the U.S. Space Force and Space Systems Command, Commercial Satellite Communications Office, allows multiple vendors to provide satellite communications services.

Through this contract, Viasat aims to deliver a comprehensive suite of fully managed Low Earth Orbit satellite-based services, including space relay services. These services will be complemented by satellites in geostationary and non-geostationary orbits, supporting operations across space, air, land, maritime, and cyber domains.

VSAT is trading premarket at $9.22 down 4.16 percent or $0.40 on the Nasdaq.
